ครับ (khráp) and คะ (khá) are polite particles — they depend on the speaker's gender. In a question the female particle is คะ (khá) (high tone), not the statement form ค่ะ (khâ).

When to use it

เท่าไหร่ (thâw-rày) means "how much" — use it alone with a point or gesture, or add ราคา (raa-khaa) "price" in front: ราคาเท่าไหร่ (raa-khaa thâw-rày) for a slightly fuller ask. In markets, bargaining is expected — once you hear a price, open the negotiation with a gentle ลดหน่อยได้ไหม (lót nɔ̀y dâay-máy) — can you reduce it a little?

Why you've seen it spelled differently

You may have seen เท่าไหร่ written as: tao rai, tao-rai, taurai, thao rai.
